City
Web Site Nets Top Honor
Leominster Champion
BY BILL GILMAN CHAMPION
EDITOR
Back in 2003, Modern Media
was hired to make
Leominster's Web site more
attractive and easier
to navigate. Mission
accomplished.
Last week, Leominster was
honored for having the best
municipal Web site in the
northeast by
the trade magazine Northeast
Municipal Forum.
"It feels good, it really
does," said designer Bruce
Fluet. "A lot of hard work
went into the site.
It's great to be
recognized."
Leominster's site was one of
10 finalists chosen by the
magazine staff based on
quality of
graphics, convenience and
accessibility. From there,
visitors to the 10 sites
were asked to vote
for the one they believed to
be the best. The Leominster
site came out on top with
163 votes.
For Mayor Dean Mazzarella,
the honor is nice, but he is
more pleased that the site
has made city
government and city
information more accessible
to the public.
"You can just tell by the
number of hits, people
accessing information,"
"said Mazzarella, adding
that restructuring the site
was a necessity of function.
"We've had a [Web site] for
maybe
10 years. Two years ago we
decided to pull it down and
completely redo it."
According to the mayor, city
residents are not the only
ones accessing the site. He
said the site
serves as an economic
development tool for
individuals and businesses
interested in learning
more about the city. In
addition, former residents
access the site to keep up
on current happenings.
The site features links to
every city department, most
of which are updated
frequently. Fluet
says he has received
tremendous help from
Purchasing Agent Greg
Chapadelaine and Treasurer
David LaPlante, who have
helped coordinate the
various city departments and
keep the flow of
information moving.
"They've been a huge help,"
said Fluet. "It's one thing
to have a Web site up with
information on it.
It's another to have updates
in a timely fashion. Dave
and Greg really deserve a
lot of credit."
According to Mazzarella, a
fully functioning Web site
can bridge the gap between
people and their
city government.
"It means that City Hall is
open 24 hours a day, seven
days a week," he said.

I just wanted to send a note
to let you know how much I
appreciate all your
work with SNA of Mass.
during my first year as
executive director.
You made a difficult year
not only doable but
energizing! I am very
pleased with the progress we
have made in developing the
website to become a more
useful and informative site.
A few of the highlights for
me include the addition of
exhibitor sign up
information from contracts
to floor plans, the links to
our Gold Sponsor websites,
the What's New box on the
home page, the conference
photo album, and the
creative ways you have
reworked our conference
brochures to create an
online presence and
registration form.
I am very excited about
launching our board member
only section as well as our
member only section. This is
a tremendous opportunity for
us to provide greater member
benefits and will help with
our recruitment and
retention efforts. The board
member only page will
certainly help develop
effective communication
between our board members,
reduce the amount of emails
I need to send with bits of
information, and provide a
solid reference section for
the critical association
documents our board members
need.
Personally it is a pleasure
working with you. In
addition to your quick
turnaround time your
personal interest and
excitement with the various
projects is refreshing. I
appreciate the time and
thought you give to the
design and enhancement of
the site as we address new
and exciting "challenges".
We have gotten very positive
comments from our members
and from directors'
of other states. I am very
proud of our site and very
pleased with your high
quality of work. I look
forward to continuing to
work together.
Thanks for all your help.

"
I love the job
Modern Media did on setting
up our new website.
The site has a beautiful
feel to it, is easy to
access and straightforward
to navigate.
Modern Media had a sense of
who was visiting the site
and what it was for.
They used wonderful graphics
in assisting us in
communicating who we are.
Modern Media was able to get
our website up and going
quickly.
I am grateful for the
opportunity to work with
Modern Media."
